It was a couple days before New Years and my parents decided to go to Singapore to take some time off their busy schedules and to relax. We had the coach tickets bought and hotel booked a week because my dad would not drive for 5-6 hours. On the night when we were supposed to leave for Singapore, my brother was doing some last minute packing 20 minutes before. The coach was supposed to leave at 8.00pm and we only left the house at 750pm. When we arrived, i saw a bus taking off and i told my parents "shit, is that our bus?! cannot be lah right, it's only 7.58!" True enough, it was our bus! I saw my brother looking up with a shocked expression on his face. My dad started scolding my brother for taking his own sweet time and my mum tried to calm my dad down. I was just watching all of this and could not believe that I just watched the bus passed by us.
My dad called up the office to stop the driver but that was no help. The man refused to give us the driver's number which was ridiculous considering that the bus only left a couple of minutes ago. I could hear my dad cussing on the phone and spoke angrily at the man. He then passed the phone to my mum and walked to my brother's direction and lectured him. She also did her best to persuade the man to give us the driver's number. My brother came up with an idea, that was to go after the bus when it needed to refuel but our efforts came to no avail.
When we got home, my brother was again lectured it made him annoyed and mad but my dad kept rubbing salt into his wound and made it worse. They got into a really heated argument and my mum and I had to break them off. Things cooled off a couple of days later. It was a really memorable NYE with us having to chase after the bus and was also a lesson learnt that we as Malaysians should be punctual as most of us are known for our "dilly daley" ways.
